COFFEE: DROUGHT BREAKS IN BRAZIL BUT NOW TOO WET IN SOME AREAS

I was very early forecasting the end of the Brazil coffee and sugar cane drought two months ago. However, global weather issues remain for some crops and now it is too wet for Brazil coffee in some areas. Find out my longer term view about coffee prices in our next newsletters

Some disease issues are also causing concern from too wet in parts of Minas Gerais

I discuss historical price action of many commodities with longer-term trading strategies.

VIETNAM: TIGHT SUPPLIES, CONTAINER ISSUES, NOW TOO WET FOR VIETNAM HELP ROBUSTA COFFEE PRICES

Rainfall the last 30 days has been too wet (well above normal for Vietnam coffee areas)

THE EXPLOSION IN WHEAT PRICES and factors influencing grain trading

My Climatelligence newsletter caught most of the move up in wheat prices since last summer. Notice how global stocks are approaching levels not seen since 2007-2008. Back then, wheat prices soared to over $10. Will this continue? We encourage you to get a free TRIAL to Weather Wealth or Climatelligence here.

Here are some of the fundamentals affecting grain trading right now.

General GRAIN Fundamentals
* South American weather remains near perfect
* Transit cost on Suez Canal to increase
* Container demand on US commodities declines
* OPEC drives global energy values
* US inflation highest in 30 years

Corn
* Chinese corn at $10.75/bu
* Heavy snows slow Chinese harvest
* Average US basis 5¢ better than last year
* Global plantings may decline
* China shopping for Ukraine corn

la nina AND GRAINS

Stay tuned, while Brazil weather remains ideal for soybeans right now, historically, take a look at how Argentina and Brazil corn and soybean yields fare with La Niña. I will be discussing more about this and potential trade ideas for corn and soybeans, deeper into the South American summer, in my Wealth Wealth and Climatelligence newsletters.

COCOA AND LA NINA

One can see mostly ideal conditions for west African cocoa, presently.  It is possible that Indonesia’s cocoa crop may come down from extremely wet weather for months, but should not be a major factor in the global scheme of things.

ENERGY WEATHER AND NATURAL GAS TRADING

I was quite early calling for a warm fall for U.S. natural gas trading and then a cold December for the eastern half of the United States. Weather will be important, not only in the U.S., but in Europe and Asia as well due to tight supplies and potential U.S. exports of LNG overseas.

But how do you trade natural gas volatility in options, ETFs and futures? I try to educate novice and expert traders around the world.

Many of the maps you see below I illustrate in both my Weather Wealth and Climatelligence newsletters.
